Studies on the person of Antonio Rosmini have swung this way and that. A period of poor research, characterised by lethargy in spreading his thought, has been followed by a growth of interest which has given Rosmini a second spring. In the first half of the twentieth century we witnessed a rediscovery of Rosmini, which was fully realised in the second half of the century. Giovanni Gentile and Michele Federico Sciacca firstly relaunched the author among the great men of history of philosophy, and the esteem of the popes have allowed the rediscovery of the purity of his spirituality, particularly after the second Vatican Council. John XXIII pointed out the spiritual quality of certain works of Blessed Antonio, Paul VI acknowledged his complete orthodoxy and John Paul II brought him to the fore again, by allowing the beginning of the process of beatification.
Time, therefore, has worked in Rosmini’s favour. The many subjects which he wrote about have made him an interesting person for scholars of different branches of learning, making him appreciated for his breadth of views, and for his accurate and precise thought. There has thus arisen deep specialist work on several fronts. Even though this is a sign of the depth of Blessed Antonio’s learning, it creates objective difficulties in approaching the whole of his work. The aim of this section is directed to responding to this need: it gives a synthesis of the principal studies on the author (minor bibliography) and offers the opportunity of useful means of research such as the collection of Rosmini’s works (major bibliography) and interesting sites devoted to his cultural and spiritual work.
